Living on a Houseboat

My father could never quite scrape up enough money for the mortgage on a house and this upset him very much. Then, one day, he had a brainwave. He decided to buy a boat as it would be significantly cheaper than a house and we could all live on board.

The very next week, he bought a houseboat. It was called The Mary Sue. My father was over the moon with it, but the rest of the family were not so convinced. It turned out to be quite comfortable, although a little small for the four of us. I remember telling my school friends that I lived on a boat. The look of confusion on their faces was priceless. They thought my family was nuts.

We lived on that boat for eight years. My father loved it less when he had to pay the numerous and steep maintenance bills. Then, one day, it sank. It sank while we were out shopping and when we returned, it was simply gone! We lost all of our possessions and eventually we moved into a normal house. We have lived there for five years.
