Feng Shui Gaining Popularity
The ancient Chinese tradition of Feng Shui is quickly gaining popularity. Feng Shui teaches people to live in harmony and balance with their environment. Positive energy is channeled to bring good luck and prosperity. In Asia, Feng Shui experts are often brought in when renovating a home or office and it is common to design buildings with Feng Shui principles in mind.
Martin Shan is a Feng Shui expert who moved to Los Angeles from Hong Kong several years ago. He claims that his business has tripled in recent months and he is booked three months in advance for a consultation. “When I first came here, most of my clients were from Hong Kong and other parts of Asia. Most people here had no idea what Feng Shui was. Now things have changed. Ninety percent of my clients are local businessmen. People here have really embraced Feng Shui beliefs.”
Not everyone is keen, though. Recently, the mayor used a Feng Shui consultant in the design of the new City Hall. The changes in design, including a 400 square foot courtyard with a fountain, will increase the cost by two million dollars. The Mayor’s political rivals were quick to accuse him of wasting money on ‘mumbo jumbo’. The Mayor hit back by calling his critics narrow-minded.
