Influencers

When I was a kid, all the boys (including me) wanted to be a pilot or a football player when we grew up. The girls wanted to be actresses or princesses. But how times change. Now I'm an adult with two offspring of my own and I was quite astonished when I heard about their ambitions – they both want to be "influencers".

I was in the dark about what an influencer was, so I Googled it. It seems that an influencer is a person who makes a living by producing content for social media.

In fact, I was further shocked to learn that my daughter already has a YouTube channel where she critiques teen fashion trends (she’s thirteen) and my son has over 20,000 followers on Instagram where he shares cartoons that he draws himself. Apparently, they are both making money with these ventures. I certainly hope they continue to make money – maybe I'll be able to retire early!
